Homemade Healing Chamomile Rose After-Sun Tonic

If you’re anything like me, you tend to overestimate your skin’s strength against the sun. As we enter the first weeks of summer, it is more important than ever to make sure your winter-delicate skin is protected. Not all of us, however, get the memo (raises hand). So what happens when all is said and done and you’ve been burned to a crisp by the UV rays? The following healing after sun tonic recipe comes to the rescue!

This recipe is aromatic, cooling, refreshing, and therapeutic. It uses aloe vera as a base and is then infused with soothing rose water, relaxing chamomile essential oil, feisty peppermint essential oil, and a bit of healing vitamin E oil. Poured into a spray bottle and stored ever so practically in your purse, you can spritz your face, arms, legs, and chest area all summer long, after being in the sun (not before!).

Aloe vera contains 75 active components, including saccharides, amino acids, anthraquinones, enzymes, lignin, saponins, and salicylic acids. It offers 20 of the 22 body’s required amino acids and eight of all essential amino acids. It’s rich in antioxidants and contains enzymes that help to reduce inflammation. When applied to the skin, it immediately leaves a cooling effect.

Vitamin E is an antioxidant that is known to prevent skin cancer and repair the skin from damage and aging. Meanwhile, rose water has natural anti-inflammatory properties and a calming effect. Chamomile oil soothes and packs in antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties while peppermint oil cools and numbs the skin, giving you that much needed break from the burning sensation!
